The Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known as the Bauhaus (German for ‘building house’), was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts. The school became famous for its approach to design, which attempted to unify the principles of mass production with individual artistic vision and strove to combine aesthetics with everyday function. Key characteristics of the Bauhaus were simplicity, functionality and utility, with a particular emphasis on geometric forms and colour. The Bauhaus school rejected all superfluous ornamentation, believing that the raw material itself contains a kind of natural and inherent decorative ability.
Inspired by Bauhaus principles, the eponymous FW ’19/’20 collection therefore combined simplicity, geometric design of the clothes and the excellent quality of the fabrics harmoniously, creating minimal clothes suitable for all hours of the day.
